1950/60 Craftsman hip roof tool box with cantilever trays.

Was this box red or gray when sold?

Is it valuable?

I have one in excellent condition, however the trays are not divided in the same way as this one.  But I can't remember exactly how mine are arranged.  I believe the paint is wrinkle finish gray.  Chrome handle and chrome tabs on the lids that are for opening the lids and have a hole thru which a padlock can be set.
On mine, only one side actuates one tray to slide out.  The other tray can then be slid back by hand.
I can post some photos if needed.

It was Grey and was offered between 1952 and 57 as far as I can tell (not enough catalogs). you don't see them often.

Interesting box, at least to me.   Pricing it, well, the paint won't help,  but from what I have seen,  would start at $40?

There were 2 or 3 other versions of that box made from the late 30's to the mid 50' all were gray.

Here's photos of mine.  I use it as a box for misc motorcycle tools but I think I'd like to use it as a toolkit box for general repairs.  One side opens freely while the other side is connected to the tray.  Opening the other side slides the tray back.  In the photo the lid is only half open.  Opening the lid further will move the tray back another inch or two.  The tray has 3 small compartments and one large.  The paint is a  fine wrinkle finish dark grey.  No hasp or latch, but two handles that can be padlocked.
