« on: July 29, 2019, 01:58:28 PM »
Picked these up at a garage sale last week, the ratchet is not correct to the set and I can't seem to find any info on what the correct ratchet looks like. No luck on the AA site, can any body help me with this?

I think late 50's is probably close but maybe the early 60's is possible. I have goggled Dunlap tools and there is some conflicting info on several different sites as to dates of production. One site says late 30's to late 50's, another says introduced in 41 and discontinued in the late 50's and Garage journal say's 1940 to 1965.The guy I bought them from was about my age (68) and he said they were his dad's but he thought that his dad had then as long as he could remember. Given that I 'm thinking late 50's to mid 60's.I was into tools in a big way in my early teens and I recall going to Simpson Sears up here in Canada with my buddy's and drooling over the Craftsman tools but I don't remember seeing any Dunlap. I've looked on ebay, etsy and kijiji  and I have not seen a similar set but I think I have in the past seen similar sets,so I just keep my eyes open and hopefully something will show up.
The $2.oo price tag is in Canadian funds so due to our dropping dollar that's about $1.53 in US funds so I don't think I over Paid.  Jim.

10-4 I remember reading somewhere that Sears stopped making Dunlap tools in 1961 - which is the year I was born. So the date sticks in my mind.

Thanks for that bonneyman, I'll keep looking and some day I should be able to find the correct Ratchet.

I believe that Bonneyman is correct. The last listing I could find for Dunlap was in a 1960 catalog. Your set is the first square drive Dunlap socket set I’ve seen. All of mine are hex 1/4” drive. I’d like to see a few more pictures of the individual tools if possible.

Don  .Not all the tools in the picture are Dunlap. There are 10 sockets from 7/16" to 1", a 4" extension and the box itself are Dunlap. The rest are as follows,a German model 950 Hoppe ratchet,a 2" and a 6" challenger extension in 3/8"drive, a Craftsman V series 3/8" ratchet, a Cman 1/2" x 3/8" adapter, and a Snap on 3/8" x 2" extension and a snappy 3/8" socket.
Which ones would like pictures of and I'll post some. Jim

I would just like to see the tools marked Dunlap so I will know what to look for at the estate and garage sales. With the thousands of sockets I’ve looked through, it’s surprising to me that I haven’t run across any that aren’t hex drive. Thanks!
