Was a great find except the marks on the screwdriver handle.  Can a repair be done?

Not easily, but possibly.  Crushed wood can be raised by putting a damp dishrag over the depressed area and using a steam iron over that.  The problem here is that the grooves in the handle were formed by compression, and you don't want to raise them.  Might be done if you take great care to not steam the grooves.
