Really an interesting wrench.  Its action is similar to the Cincinnati Tool bar clamps.  Just lever action.  Hate to say, but I've never seen anything like it.  No marks anywhere?

Looks like you nailed it!  They must have waited to add the name until the patent was approved.

Several versions of this one can be found, He held another patent also. The hatchet handled pipe wrench also falls under this patent.
