This one has me stumped! It doesn't seem like it has the right geometry for a splitting wedge. And the end with what looks like a a large slotted screw head is even more baffling! Thanks!

Almost looks like a finale for a wrought iron fence post.  Does the slotted part turn?

Thanks for the reply. The slotted piece may have turned at one time, but right now it is frozen . This piece is pretty hefty, and looks like it was meant to be struck, or at least , it has been struck!

Hello, geneg . Mystery solved , a friend of mine figured it out. It is a Flagpole Stake , the screw is removed for the pole , and when the pole is removed, the screw is put back in to keep the water out. The stake is usually put in a permanent spot.
