I found this 10-inch Stillson wrench unremarkable except for the stamp on the handle which reads "MANUFACTURED FOR W.T. GRANT CO.  25 CENT DEPT. STORE"  W. T. Grant has long since disappeared. This wrench is an artifact.

W. T. Grant was founded in Lynn MA in 1909, by William T. Grant, who apparently got tired of buying underwear for Almey,Bigelo & Washburn. The stores original motto was "no article sold costing more than 25 cents."

By the depression he backed off a bit, trade papers describe the chain as "merchandise priced 5 cents to $1, mostly over 25 cents", but by then there were 25 stores, and the chain was incorporated....

Still, I expect the wrench wan't terrably expensive back then...;P
