16FEB13 Find- Updated

I stopped by my longtime favorite flea market today, looking for a new collectible wrench.  I found one.  It was a 8-inch Mossberg Sterling No. 3 monkey wrench with the Nov.13, 00 patent date stamped on it. When I got it home, and was knocking a century's worth of dirt off the wrench, I was pleased to find the "U.S.A." Army stamp from the First World War.  The stamped numbers were of the same size and font used on the Army's Indian Motocycle's  Wakefield No. 17 wrenches. Both the Mossberg and the Wakefield wrenches were sold unplated.

The two lower photographs were added to show the stamping on this wrench more clearly. The seraphs on the letters in the stamped word "Sterling" are worth noting.

If you had not mentioned that it was seven inches, would have thought it was three inches.   Proportions look the same as the little pocket wrenches.   I've never seen one of those sans rust, good find.
