What is your favorite vacuum cleaner?
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:50:07 PM »
I recently went on a mini-quest to find the best cheap vacuum cleaner.  I compiled a guide to such as a result.  The reason was that my wife absolutely needed me to promptly vacuum up after myself when I do home improvement projects.  Thus I settled on a very cheap little Bissell machine that takes no bags and moves around easily.  You can see it near the bottom of my guide (linked in my signature).

So I am curious to find out: what are your favorite vacuum cleaners?  What do you like or dislike about them?  How much did you spend on them?

Hmmm! Is there some connection between cheap vacuums and old tools?

Cheap Vacuums, like good tools, don't suck ;P
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Some of both suck, and others don't?

Vacuum cleaners have been aruond for a long time?

Women consider suck machines tools.

Aw hell, /\ I don't know.

Suck-o-lux..

The old Electrolux bullet couldn't be beat. If you are lucky enough to find one in mint condition? (I never did)  it will last a lifetime.
The old GE "sputnik" roll around canister is what I use. (easy to find) Have used it 35 years and counting. It has a cloth dirtbag you take out and empty. Wash it once a decade.
I use Electrolux hose and wand with it because they were the best ever made.
I keep 3 spare motors in reserve.

Interesting thing about suckbrooms? Just about 70% of them use the exact same motor. All the way up into those big plastic shop vacs.  Same motor. Commercial car wash vacuums use the same motor too, except two at a time.

My favorite was ... I forget the name.  Sort of a Flash Gordon looking thing.  It got stolen.

For my shop, I bought three (upgrading, you know) shop vacs at the dump for $5 each.  One Craftsman that works, one big Rigid that I'll use as a dust collector, and another Rigid to use as a vacuum.
