Hay rake Seat?
« on: August 17, 2014, 03:43:33 PM »
I have been looking at this seat for at least 4 months at the local antique swap.  I was the one that caved.  The seller came off a whole $5...
Any ideas what this came off of?  Number on shaft appears to be 119 S.

Since neither of us has a copy of Friedly's book on cast seats, I would google (cast iron implement seats) and look over Fred Stokes cast iron seat collection. He has color photos of many cast iron seats. I see two or three that resemble yours but can't tell without your seat.

Looks to me like a Barnes lathe seat, pedal powered.

I think you are right on with the Barnes lathe seat.  It even has the attach post that looks correct.

There should be a floor bracket and a pipe to the seat also.
the pic is of one of my 4 1/2 Barnes treadle lathes. I liked making things in non-ferrous  metal on the lathe. But my knees are shot, need replacing, so says every orthopedic surgeon and most x-ray techs.
The seats and other parts are being recast in Amish country.
