Which use came first?? Butter curler, fish scale remover or clay shave??? Was it a case of simultaneous development as the need arose, or did one tool get 'poached' for another use??
It's not a difficult idea, so it could be a matter of independent invention. On the other hand, I'll bet that carving out wooden spoons was the first use, long before anybody thought of curling butter. I seem to recall seeing spoon carving tools like this dug up by archeologists.
