This Old Vise

I recently rescued this old Craftsman model 5169 from my uncles shed, I want to know a little more about it like how old it is and what is worth. It opens to about 5 1/2" and is pretty beat up there's some pitting here and there some is pretty deep. Just to be clear I'm not selling I'm just curios---- this baby's going on my bench. Maybe I'll take a wire brush to it and give it a paint job hmm..............

That does not look beat up to me. I would say it's in good condition. I don't know who made it, but it looks well made. I would sand it down and clean it real well. I would fill in the pits with Bondo or J-B Weld and then prime and paint it. I repeat, that is one cool looking vise you lucky dog.

how wide are jaws? weight? looks like 4 1/2"? about 32 lbs?
similar going for ~$30 to $160 on ebay.. that model was on Worthpoint..

The "C" washer retaining the adjusting screw reminds me of a Wilton design.

Thanks for the reply's guy's, the jaw with is 4" and were I said it is beat up is there is really bad pitting on the base and the anvil is really marked up bad its really seen some heavy use. But its a great working vise and I did only pay $0.00 for it.

1st thing to do !    clean it up, then look at it for a few days, then your mind will dictate the next step.

paint, clear coat it or leave as it cleaned up.  you will be the one using it.

have fun with it, just do not drop it on your foot.
