That's not walnut. Can't tell what it is, I maybe could with a closer picture.

Made in China barstool that was clearly marked as walnut.

I have an older friend who makes quite a few handles out of Sumac wood. Sumac has a really nice grain to it. It looks really nice as revolver grips. here in NY Sumac is almost a weed.

Good progress,  I epoxy one scale on, when dry I drill the two rivet holes from the iron side.  Then glue the second scale,  drill thru my already done pilot hole.  Got a nice size brass rod for rivets I have used the brass rod found at hardware stores for a toilet float bowl.
