I think this is a part for a tool but it may be a tool itself.  Should be pretty easy for the experts here ;)

A place for everything and everything on the floor

Thanks Skip!  What exactly does it do?

Mostly used by woodworkers.   You bore a round hole and depression in your workbench (or preferably multiple holes); drop in the dog and set the teeth up against your work to keep it from sliding around on the workbench.   helps if you have an adjustable clamp on the other end to hold the workpiece against the dog.

Hello, Guys. Loosening the screw lightly should allow the square piece to pop up, (spring loaded)  and you  would rotate that piece to one of the 4 edges to align with your workpiece. The Millers Falls catalog lists it as a No. 56 Bench Hook, but as the other guys said, most of us refer to it as a bench dog. Regards, Lou

If you decide not to keep it, you could get some coin for it from eBay, if you describe it well.  Or you could become my friend forever by giving me first dibs.

Thanks guys!  I actually came across 7 of them.  I listed them on ebay last night at $60 + ship each.  Sold 3 of them today.
