Todays Find No. 3: A Japanese Horror Story

I saw this wrench a week ago and passed it by in an anti-social moment.  Today I saw it again and thought of you guys, and how you would enjoy seeing an unusual botched-up wrench. So, for $1, here it is.

It's an 8-inch Santo "First Quality" wrench according to the boss on the handle.  That's where the BS starts. On the other side of the handle the following legend is embossed: "Tested for Hardness, Bending and Moment Load  Japan".

The wrench is bent, and has badly mushroomed jaws. The testing assurances were meaningless.  On reflection, I know how the wrench's owner must have felt as it crumpled up on him.  I bought a shiny new Mazda 929 in 1988 that did the same thing over time.

Ah, the inscrutable East!

When I read the subject line, a picture of Godzilla munching on a combo wrench came to mind.

Truth is, it does say "Tested for Hardness, Bending and Moment Load...          ' - but doesn't say it passed any of the tests!

Bends less than a willow in the wind.....
Single Moment of load is all allowed...
