Re-Purposed H D Smith Perfect Handle

So a MVWC friend was interested in the E. S. Scripture wrench that sold this Spring at the Browns Antique Tool Auction. The wrench sold to a collector in Conn and I believe it will end up in the D'Elia Antique Tool Museum in Scotland Conn. Hammer price and buyers premium brought the price to over $5,300, I forget the exact amount. There are only a few known examples of the Scripture wrench and the patent drawing is quite a bit different from the actual wrench. Patent 19,954 April 13, 1858.

Still wanting a E. S. Scripture for his collection he went to work making one. He started out with a H. D. Smith perfect handle as the core for the project. The pictures below tell the rest of the story.

As an aside, the wrench is kinda weird in that it has features of both of Scriptures wrench patents, I almost wonder if both should be claimed as the basis for the wrench....

The 144,036 patent looses the block for the thread on the thumb, but adds the release ball on the back. The actual wrench has both the block, and the back side release...
