A local blogger has posted this thing on his site.

I feel I should know what this is - I have the vaguest recollection of having seen such a thing before - but I just can't place it...

QuoteThe knurled body is made of aluminum, and the central steel shaft is held in place by a spring steel locking plate which slips into the slots turned on the shaft.  By releasing the locking plate, you can move the shaft in or out in either 3/8" or 1/8" increments.  The only marking on the tool is a stamped "Australia."

Have at it!

It looks like a go-no go guage, but for checking bore depth?

The blogger was concerned it may involve kangaroo proctology...

Sort of depth gauge or checker - they use things like gauges to check the depth of a golf cup below the surface of the green  - I thought it was just a hole in the ground the ball was supposed to fall into - anyway it could be a use like that for those pedants who want to make sure their golf course is the right shape.... Personally I like the sheep and kangaroo based responses...
