Thought I'd double post this since some of you guys aren't on Garage Gazette.  Just got this its mostly here. Its a 19 piece Duro 4500 set. It was $12.90 in the 39M catalog. Its missing the E64, E66 and E68 ignition wrenches a 3" durolite screwdriver(4S3), 4" spinner handle(4573) a Spin Flex adapter(4570). Can anyone identify the splined socket looking thing, it has 1/4" female drive on one end and the other is a round hole that looks like 9/32" dia. Its possible this is a different set then the 4500 since only the even wrenches are missing, they are the same as the odd sizes but with ends reversed.

Those screwdrivers probably broke when dropped!

Sweet set!

I believe Durolite starts fairly brittle & gets worse over time...

Can anyone confirm this?

rusty

If it was solvent softened cellulose, which was comon, yes, it will turn into something resembling cracked glass ....

No idea what the spline tool fits, but I have an ignition wrench set that also has a stamped wrench with a spline cutout in it, so there is something out there, somewhere, with a spline screw on it....

(Probably to keep joe homeowner from letting the springs escape from his magneto...;P)
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Fins,

I don't have any Duro catalogs, but I'm wondering if this is really an ignition set.  It looks to me like this is a typical 1/4 drive set that somebody has added some ignition wrenches to.

The only Duro catalog (1935) I have seen used 45nn model numbers for their 1/4 drive sets and 17nn model numbers for their Ignition sets.  Also the ignition sets were sold in tool rolls and did not include sockets or drive tools.

Not trying to start a range war, just asking...

The info came out of the 39M catalog. It suprised me too as I figured like you it was a 1/4" set that someone added wrenches and pliers to. It may still be that but there is a 4500 ignition set in the 39M catalog

Fins,

Sounds reasonable, but I had to ask.
