Now that I am into miniatures I have run into a problem .Displaying the small stuff on a normal pegboard is not the best use of space. Do they make Pegboard where the holes are closer together and the hook holes smaller?
I realize that I would have to get small hooks to match.  Drilling holes and making the hooks would take a lot of time plus with my shaking it may prove interesting.
i was thinking about the stiff insulation and making several layers in hard  cases. But what would i use to hold the tools to the foam. If I punch a lot of holes it will break when handling them .I have them in plastic boxes that are made with 1 inch square sections .The pieces are hard to get out of the sections to look at them. I have tried stick pins with the little ball for a head and regular flat heads but they pull out of the foam easily and have to be cut off so they do not go through the foam.

I have seen pegboard with 1/8" diameter holes and it's typically 1/8" thick hardboard (Masonite). You would use 1/8" hooks and they are readily available.
I'm not sure if the hole spacing is any closer, but it's likely to be on 1" centerlines.
All the big box stores seem to stock only the 1/4" (9/32) dia. stuff.

How about flat file cabinets that are meant for maps an blueprints an stuff like that.

Maybe those would work, that's my best way I can think of.

Bob, a trip to the crafts store or website may give you some ideas. "Michael's" has a lot of different things you could use to set up your display. They stock display set ups for collectors of everything from little bells to spoons, coins and just about anything you can imagine. There are light boxes, wall hanging shelves that are only a couple inches deep, magnetic poster board, plastic boxes etc. etc. If you can get to thier store or website to look around, I bet you'll come up with the perfect solution. P.S. I have been meaning to mention that there are a lot of miniatures over on Etsy if you haven't checked those out. There may even be some good display ideas there too. Good luck!

This is the general idea, you could probably make one cheaper or find one used.

Masonite pegboard tends to get unhappy when you hand several hundred pounds of iron to it. Most stores use steel pegboard these days, but it also comes in plastic.

You can get any hole spacing you like, ie:

No idea what this stuff costs tho...

2" thick blue construction foam (home junko) with large push pins perhaps?
(glue 1/4 ply to the back to keep it from splitting..)

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Collecting miniatures is another slippery slope. You might find this website interesting for display ideas and other projects. Check it out:

Bob, I used to have a swing out metal armed tie rack that would hold like 30 ties.  I had my small combo and DBE wrenches displayed on it.  The arms were vall offset and the tools didn't weigh enough to bend the arms.  Found it at a yard sale for like 25 cents.  The wood backing piece is toast these daysthanks to my lack of skill with removing it from a wall.  But it worked great while i left it alone!!!
