Was teaching an entry level kayak class in the morning, so the pickins were a little slim by 2PM.  So I started knocking on doors of sales that had already died and came up with a decent day.   Big find was the Craftsman wood vise.  Got it a several other tools for $12

Several yard sales advertised tools towards the top of their list, so I will always wonder what I missed out on.  One box of stuff was free for the hauling and another went for a buck.  Time to sleep now

A nice haul from sales that had "already died".

Photo 1.....Funky homemade hacksaw.  Is it is the one on the left of the photo?  It certainly has a nightmare homemade handle and, I would say, an oversize replacement blade but the frame looks to be that of a nice little piercing or jewellers' saw. I think there used to be thread on them before the big crash.

Yeah, I recognize the saw.  It's not homemade, and it didn't start life as a hacksaw.  It's a jewelers saw.  The original handle would have looked like a coping saw or fret saw handle.  It has been replaced with a block of wood.  There might be a makers mark on the frame -- that's where they are usually found.

Sorry for the slow response bonneyman.  The Barcalo DBE is a 3/8"x7/16".  Find me a Hinsdale goodie and I'll swap....

Nice haul.  You will enjoy that vise.  Happen to have a NOS one ready to move along to a new home, complete with original handle (like yours) & the original paperwork.

 That glue gun is a "game day planer".  I have one just like it. Mcmaster sells the good 18" glue sticks. Takes a few minutes to warm up but after that, it'll squirt glue all day long.

I bought a drill like that new on sale from Sears.  I used it just the other day. 30 years and still going strong.
In fact the sander (not a great one) and skilsaw (good enough!) I still have mates to, too.
   I really like the oldest skillsaw, btw. I don't have one of those. Loos like it needs a trigger switch.
 
The tube cutter is a rebranded Imperial brass, and will be the best cutter you ever owned, for small stuff.  Clean it all the way up, get a new wheel just for backup if the one you have its still good, and then..... Count on It!

The Ridgid is another tube cutter, just bigger.  Conduit is it was made for, not pipe.

  Good vise! Its from the 60's.  I remember when they were for sale in the catalogs.

Thanks.  I always thought the red Rigid tools were the ones for cutting pipe.  This one had the smaller screw knob on it making it look older anyway.

Looking at the title, Re: Garbage Scow Run in Ft. Dodge, and looking at the pictures and assuming that they represent an average weekly intake of "new" material prompts a question.  What does one do with all the tools, etc. as they pile up? Do the piles just get bigger or is there a disposal process in operation, e.g. Tools for Tots, eBay, Sally Ann, etc?

In my case they just pile up, unless one or two are worthy of adding to a display or group. Most are stowed away in boxes in the shop.

In my constructing of the title of this post, I envisioned me and the Vanagon going around picking up all the stuff no one else wanted and hoping for really cheap prices instead of creme d' la creme finds and prices to match.  In one sense, I was doing these folks a favor by turning stuff they didn't want in to some cash, but I would've just hated to see that Craftsman  wood vise end up at Goodwill.

As for my tool stash,  it isn't big enough(my words, not my wife's) yet to worry about. I will be selling off some of the dupes and stuff I may not collect in the future, but that's a month or so away.  The stamped wrenches are piling up and in need of a bigger metal box.  I've filled a Contico tote tray with all the open ends  blah blah blah.  The really cool stuff hangs on the wall until the foundation starts sagging in the shop or the pegboard starts to crumble.

That's a really nice Craftsman vice, Dimwitted.  I wonder if you have put it to use in the two years since your original post.  If so I'd be interested in your application/mounting.

I have one identical to it sitting in my shop (on the floor under the Farmall).  It was given to me in 2006 by an older neighbor just before he passed.  In the past year 1930 has given me a wood vise that outshines the CM in character.  I have yet to use either and look forward to a day when I have a setup where I can.

Tools in boxes piling up and not used is a scary picture for me.  I tend to give them away; to friend, family, or young folks trying to get a start and where they appreciate good quality tools.  There is a "vocational" or "trade school" just up the road where I have a good relationship with the auto mechanics instructor.  He has a good eye for those focused, deserving, and without.  I've also found establishing trade partners (with all being met on this site) is a good mechanic for clearing tools from the shed.  Example:  If PROTO or HINSDALE or BONNEY hits my shop you can assume it's getting routed to Dimwittedmoose by default.  He in return routes me great Thorsen, Wizard, and older CMAN tools.  I feel very comfortable the periodic exchange of large flat-rate boxes works to both our benefit.  This is only an example of the many good trade partners on this site.  I appreciate every one of them.

The exception for me are tools coming from my family.  I have, so far, only been able to let go of few (and far between).  I admit those tools often land in boxes and only get fondled on occasion.  I look forward to a day when those not used might be wall hangers, but I have yet to pour the 48" deep slap or cut the 2x12 studs required to build that shed :)

Oily, don't forget hew occasional Giller I find ror you too....lolSpeaking of wood bench vises, I just picked up a Wilton that is about twice as heavy as my C-man,  will need some TLC, but this baby was made for the"professional"....lol  Photos later.   HAd a great day hunting down stuff with my $40  "allowance"

I have a guy locally that I've worked out a deal with in that he will buy Thorsen(for Oily) and the other stuff for me when he
's at an auction that I can't make.  I, in turn,  alert him to potential woodworking stuff and will buy some stuff if I'm sure he's got the hots for it.  Great individual, as are all us tool freaks....
