Very special hand made tool

I can't remember where I got this but I've had it a long time. I know nothing about the maker, what it is was used for, or why he made it this way. He stamped "V" and "J" on opposite sides of the hex. The tool is 9 3/8" long and is a tapered hex ending in a round point. The head looks more like a Possum than anything else. It's weird but beautiful. Al.
