tools people dump?

Monthly Bulk pick-up time in my neighborhood. found a "Duplex" tool box with tray & with some old "Working" tools in it..
Pointed chisel "Trade <Z> Mark 16X180"
YANKEE No.44  North Bros. MFG Co. with 9 bits, just oiled & works great!!
Stanley #60 3/4" chisel (Worn)
v-PLVMB-v 3026 (BB) 9/16 & 1/2" DOE.
Body Hammer, maybe "CRAFTSMAN? Professional ???? Tools"
Brace drill "DUNLAP  #10 great shape, nice wood grain..

I once found a box of tools in a parking lot downtown near a construction site.

I put signs up at the lot and faxed signs to the job super, who said he hung them in his trailer.  I didn't touch them for over a year, after that I figured it would be ok to put in with my stuff.  I still use that box.

I find wrenches and screwdrivers in the roads here now and then.

Your free find beats all of mine so far, but I am still looking.......

Lots of us are having some trouble uploading pictures, including me. As far as I know, there is no problem except that the server is busy or we are near the bandwidth limit for attachments.
Server issue won't be resolved because Tool Talk is on free forum software. Bandwidth issues might be resolvable if I can get RLT to respond to emails.

A creek overflowed near me flooding basements and a friend of mine found a stainless steel  bottom box out at the curb.It looks like it's from a hospital. Nice find indeed.

I've never seen a Yankee 44; have to watch for one of those.  Push drills are extremely useful, and everyone who does woodworking or installs blinds, curtains, etc. for the love of his/her life should have one...or, say, ten (I think that's how many I have, although I haven't counted lately).

I have 4 or 5, I think. Once you get used to them, for certain jobs they are indispensable.

Yes, the screwdrivers are nice; the push drills are slightly different, and both are very efficient tools.

That 44 is very unusual!! compared to the common 41.. (got several 41's. working)
The bits lock in by turning the end knurl, not by pulling it back.. the end cap unlocks by pulling the small screw down, then rotate the cap, 7 settings, the light setting is ideal for small bits, not too much pressure driving the bit, so it "drills" holes without damage to hole.. the drive gear & spring is heavy duty & easily accessible, just loosen middle knurl nut & pull apart... Just LOVE it.. my 1st.

The older North Bros. pushdrills used a twist-to-lock chuck.  Why it took until Stanley owned the company for some engineer to realize that the spring-loaded collar chuck used on the Yankee screwdrivers would work just as well on a pushdrill - I don't know.  I've got some of both in the common pushdrill design, so I know it's not a matter of one model vs. another.

The No. 44 Yankee push drill is commonly found with a Bell Systems mark. I've had a number of them that even had several twist drill bits in them, as well as the standard bit they offered in the 44 and 41. Bell Systems also used the 41.

Checked out some other hand drills, most are Stanley; 4ea. 41Y, (a north bros. div of Stanley 41) and a North Bros. 44.. 2ea. (20")130A & a (27")131A North Bros. (black paint), & a 131A Stanley..  2 Stanley Handyman #233H, & 1 powermaster (Japan)..  all with bit sets..  The braces are; Dunlap #10 & 2ea. Fulton #10..  and eggbeaters; Miller Falls #5 (DC) greenfield Mass. (with "Since 1868" triangular logo stamped on the crank).  and a No Name W/bits in wood handle.. I have a small 4" jewelers drill someplace.

I don't see any Bell System marks on any of mine.  (Edited; but read that Bell sys. used & marked their Yankee tools)
Twist drills need a chuck like the egg beaters, unless twist drill has the standard shank with flat & notch?.

I think you will be set for awhile for drills.   What is sad is the Millers Falls eggbeater, someone stuck a file handle on it.  Those are outstanding fixed up to original.
