You say what it used to be.

Size?   It looks like a fancy drink shaker.

You got it. I think it was a "martini shaker" for the "shaken, not stirred" james bond martini. I took a picture of it disassembled but when I went to upload it, it was gone. My camera is fussy that way. Anyhow, it's 3 pieces. The bottom will hold a couple handfuls of nasty old sockets and the chemical cleaner of your choice. The middle section has a strainer on the top, and, after soaking for the prescribed period, you pour the chemical out through the 'beak' and retrieve the nice clean parts. Sounds good, haven't tried it yet ... but, I have no use for a Martini Shaker.

Definitely a cocktail shaker. There are lots of cocktails that are supposed to be shaken.
Martinis are supposed to be stirred with a special spoon that doesn't chip the ice cubes and water down the gin.
Bond is ordering a watered down drink.

Penguin shakers have always been a popular pattern. Yours is vintage and one of the better ones.
You will be using a 40 dollar parts washer, just so you know.

I'd probably have 2nd thoughts if it were the real thing, but I peeled off the 19.99 sticker on the bottom and revealed the ubiquitous "China" underneath. Plus, I got it for a quarter. Thanks for having me check though.

Oh cool!  Accurate copy though. They copied the earlier pattern with the feet and wings.
Didn't want to see you hurt.
But a modern copy, wash away!
