Dad had a couple of standard jokes. This is one.

While reading old whatsit posts I came upon the following, it was the last comment:

Thermos has made some quality products over the years IMO.  I still carry an older Thermos lunch box.  Used the "Thermos" upright coffee carrier a many of times over the last few weeks with hospital visits.

For some reason it reminded me of an old joke my dad used to tell:
A pompous professer got on an elevator with the building janitor. The scholar asked the cleaner "Who is the smartest person you know?"
After a short time thinking he replied "It's not who, but what. The smartest I know is my thermos"
The learned professor, being intrigued, had to ask "Why is a thermos the smartest thing you know?"
Said the gentle custodian "Well, in the winter it keeps my hot drinks hot, and in the summer it keeps my cold drinks cold."
The professor replied "Whats so smart about that?"

The simple answer came ..."How does it know?"

When dad told that joke he used non-politically correct terms and accents. He would do that kind of thing sometimes, like teaching me the resistor color code one way, then saying "This is the way it is said now" and proceed to teach me a more politically correct method. I never once saw him treat anyone different for any reason other than if he percieved them as pompous or hypocrital. Then he was brutal.

Part of my regular crew for awhile would ask that when he opened his thermos and took a hit, hot or cold.   (O:
