I started mine. I had a little trouble but I'm not sure what the issue was. I guess it just felt neglected and wanted to be messed with. Something was wrong with the kill switch I think.

I wonder how many people will buy generators at Home Depot. run them till they mysteriously stop, and then read the directions where it says 'fill with oil before using'.....

*never* buy a used generator just after a storm.....

Better question, how many generator engines will run well but no electrons will come out because the machine wasn't exercised under load regularly?

I have four 100 wt flood lights pluged into the generator at all times if nothing else it tells me the generator is on.   lol Our generator is propane powered and has been there since 1999.Llast year i pulled the plug and it was like brand new.( it was replaced anyway iI change the oil every fall and spring even if we don't use it. i use the used oil in my shop for lubeing tools and other uses . bob w.

The life of 99% of generators is the same, nap till needed, and you better be ready and able when needed.  The napping place is generally the worst possible location, generally damp and dank.  Generators don't nap happily, they loose their residual magnetism and the capacitors that excite them go bad.  If it's a 3600rpm machine multiply failure factors by 9.

Happy generators start once a month, and run with at least 50% load for half an hour so they can warm their windings and cook off any condensation.  They have oil that isn't loaded with condensation, and they are excited and ready to go when the PoCo craps out.  Their owners don't call Phil to tell me the power went out, they found their generator, it runs and no electrons are coming out.  They don't have owners who hear Phil say he will give them a call when he gets back from Phoenix or whatever far away place comes to Phil's mind that moment.

I just delivered sone stuff across the state today, the place I went was in one of the areas that still doesn't have the electricity back yet.

Out front was one of those large pad mounted generators by a well known company, I know they are well known because I saw their truck with the well known name on it, and the 5 guys ripping the generator apart to repair it.

Yup.... that's when the generator gets fixed....when the power's out..

I predict the power will come back on just about the time they get it working....
