Well here's something I've never seen before, a reversible circular saw...

This isn't mine, nor anyone I know, but thought it was something pretty uncommon that you folks might appreciate seeing :P

Fascinating.  And, clearly, a tool that met frequent needs of carpenters, as evidenced by the large number of other version of this design...

I can see it as useful for cutting down into laminate, plastics and possibly flooring to minimize damage to the top surface.  Beyond that, WHY?

Lefties get so used to using right-handed tools that it's often hard to use a left-handed one.  I can't use leftie scissors worth a darn.  There's a subtle "push" the hand applies to keep the blades close as you cut, and I just can't make it work when I hold the scissors in my left (dominant) hand.

There are certain tools that can be used righthanded only.  Chainsaws are one of them.

Oddly, some tools and other things work better for lefties when used righthanded.  Guitars are one example.  The complicated stuff happens on the left hand when the guitar's held "properly."

I'm not certain this is a right hand/left hand thing.  Some circular saws have most of the plate to the right of the blade, others put most of the plate to the left of the blade.  I remember a number of times wishing the saw I was using had the plate to the opposite side.  There are times, too, when it would have been convenient to start a cut at one end, but finish the cut from the other.  Looking at that saw I found myself thinking, "I could have used that feature a number of time!"

How do you keep the blade nut from loosening in one direction?

Seems like you could have a loose blade problem in one direction.
