My 87A which is in a box and per my old catalog should be I think 4" lg actually measures about 4 5/8 from the top of the line spool (not the tip on top of the line spool) to the bottom of the point. It also has a screw in hardened tip. My 87, 6" doesn't have the screw in tip. When you shake both of them you can hear and feel the mercury slosh around inside the cavity.
