Some nice finds. Cant remember who made that spoke wrench. American comes to mind but not in Copes under that name.

I asked the guy selling the spoke wrench (an old tools dealer) "how much for the spoke wrench?"  To which he replied, "Spokewrench???"
Sometimes its better to tell them what it is after you buy it...but the seller was a good sport and gave it to me for $5.

I found a listing of spoke wrench in 2010 Busch auction.  It says it is advertised as "never slip nipple grip."

That looks like a mighty nice example of the Boardman's Patent tool. Somewhere I read that Tower & Lyon took over manufacturing them in 1904. I wonder how long they were in production after that?
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

See pg. 16 of the Dec. 2012 MVWC Newsletter for the  NEVERSLIP, BABY, VICTOR, and CHICAGO spoke grips. There are a couple more on pg. 17.

The 8" SIMPLEX in Dennis Piper's collection was a "hot item"  that is on its way to Maine.  Bet that makes you feel even better about finding one.

Always nice when something you find is a "hot item."

I found the Neverslip nipple wrench in Copes 2nd Ed, pg 81.  It was made by Buffalo Specialty MFG. CO, Buffalo, NY.

I keep calling this a spoke wrench, but it is referred to as a nipple wrench.  Is there a difference?

I said American came to mind; everyone has heard of the American buffalo. I will tag mine Buffalo Specialty Mfg. Co in case my memory fails again.

Hey JAFE,  I live in Mission Viejo, but I was at the old tool swap meet in Culver City.  Are you local?
