it's about 5" long the metal part  is 5/8" long, 1 3/8" o.d copper wire I think is just to hold on a hook.
So what is it?

Handle to put on very large candles so your hand doesn't melt the bottom of the candle.

Duck call made by a hunter who starved to death waiting for the ducks to appear, since he forgot to drill a hole to blow through.

Part of that game with the ball on the end of a piece of string and a handle with a place to catch the ball.  You swing the ball in a loop and catch it with the handle.  This is the professional-grade version: nice wooden handle, very small metal ball receiver because, after all, a pro doesn't need a big "catcher."

Some kind of leatherworking implement (that's the failsafe answer, right?).

We can almost eliminate "saw set" chance are slim for it being one of them.

pigglet scraper!
I got a suggestion it could be a bottle capper,
it looks like it is the right size for that, so have you seen an handheld bottle capper?
Guess one could use a wooden or rubber mallet to "cap" the bottle?

I got the idea from a German facebook friend about the bottle capper, he suggests using  rubber mallet wooden one too hard. I think it was in my foundry / smitty shed cause someone was going to toss it and I was saving it at least for the wooden handle for a soldering iron.  Also found in the scrap metal bucket and meat hook with Swift embossed on it. (sorry no pic) So cleaning off the work bench in there was all just junk! And it's the same bench I cleaned last year, then my power line to the shed crapped out. Got lights again. should be casting soon!

So, are you saying that, if we want to keep the junk under control, we should leave the lights on in the shop all the time?  Junk multiplies in the dark?  Or shop elves bring stuff in and scatter it around at night?

not sure it seems every time I walk in thru the door  I forget why I came to do?
We live on a farm, there is still stuff from who knows who?  some of the building are timber framed and wooden pegs some are from the 1950's so there are little nooks and crannies that have stuff. plus I've gone to auctions for 45 years, there are still boxes of stuff I've not looked at.
