What is it.

A friend has this tool. No one has come up with what it is used for, so I thought it would be a good one for here.

Used to spread automobile leaf springs so they could be greased. Probably marked with a small Williams logo.

yup,  big problem back in the 20-30s, squeaky leaf springs after the intial lube dried out.   Later they put plastic or Teflon tabs between the leaves so they wouldn't squeak.

 yes, I have one just like yours.

 back in the early 50's when I worked in a filling station after school,  after winter had left, many folks would come
in to have us stop their squeaky springs. also after going thru water puddles.

 we did not have a special tool like that,  we would jam a screw driver between the springleafs to get the dirt out,
 then oil/lube them as the customer asked for.

That is great.  Yes, I can see how that works.  I have a car that it could be used on.
