Bell System Kraeuter Pliers, But for what?
« on: January 08, 2017, 05:43:28 AM »
Some of you may remember a posting of an auction purchase were we won 2 displays of plierenches and lineman's tool, this was among them and you would think we could find out just about anything with google; but not so - not one article or picture to be had. :-)

Not going to point out the obvious but does anyone know what this particular tool is called or what it was used for? Thanks!!

Sorry for the terrible pics, :-(

Actually very good pics Jeff.  I have bunch of Kraeuter pliers but nothing like that.  Seems like it's meant to grab something and use the loop to keep tension on the handles while you work with it.

Unlikely, but could it be for a home service workman to crimp a lead tag on an outside phone box?

Thanks guy's for the input, might be one of those things we may never know for sure, but overall a really nice piece for anyone's collection and a great conversation piece as well.

Kind of curious tho about the grove in the nose, it is offset and on both sides but still line up, which tells me most likely it was grooved after the assembly but was it supposed to be in the middle or just a misalignment.

From my limited experience in this case both half come out of the same mold with one handle getting curled for the keeper and why "Kraeuter" was also in both handles and Bell System was stamped. Also looks like the jaw took some abuse especially down by the pivot which could lead someone to think whatever they pinched was hard or maybe mis used for something other than it's intended use.

One may never know but fascinating anyhow.

I have a pair of pliers like that, except the v-groove is larger. Don't know what they're for.

Could be for gripping wire to pull it or for straightening wire.
