Wooden 'needles'? & metal 'reamers'?
« on: February 26, 2017, 02:32:39 PM »
I found these four tools while cleaning out a barn near Spokane, WA a few years ago.

The two wood 'needles' are 5.5 and 4.5 inches long and ~ .5 inches in diameter at their widest.

The two metal tools are about 5 inches long.  The tips are curved and pointed.  The one is spoon-like and the tip is not sharp. Maybe for reaming?

Each has a small leather loop. Kept on a ring of tools?

There are no markings on any of them.

If anyone has some insights I thank you in advance.

Look like different types of corn husking tool. I'm going off memory now, and that can be dangerous, but I think they were called "husking pegs"?

Mike you nailed it! A quick search and there they were.

So the the loops are finger or thumb loops. Cool!

Thank you Mike.

The 2 wooden ones look to be home made and the 2 steel ones are commercially made. I have a dozen or more. Some are patented, one I have is made from bone.

As a kid, I can remember using them to shuck out the "turnrows" so as not to allow waste with clumsy older equipment.
