These appear to be some kind of nippers or sheet metal cutters. The jaw with the angle adjustment and length guide is flat while the other jaw is triangular shaped.  I believe they were used to nip or cut metal but would like to know specifically how they worked and for what purpose

does it cut a notch?  or are they like wire cutters.

It appears to me that they would cut a notch - The one jaw is flat and the other triangular shaped but without a sharpened edge which would be needed for wire cutting

well it would be something narrow, it looks to be about 3" deep on the depth adjustment. what comes in strips that you would notch? I'm drawing a blank.

Is there a name or a number anywhere? Maybe around the joint.

It looks more like a saw set to me than a nipper.

They do have the look of a saw set and I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

Hello, Try "The Saw Set Collectors Resource" (website) and go to Plier Saw Sets. Looks a little like a Bemis & Call, but not exact. Regards, Lou

Thanks for the suggestions - There are no markings of any kind on the tool - I will check out the saw set suggestions

After looking at the suggested site of "Saw Set Collectors Resource", I agree that these look a lot like a different version of the Bemis & Call saw set although there are still enough differences that I'm not 100% sure. The hunt continues!
