Ball cable tool parts??
« on: January 01, 2018, 07:24:11 PM »
Got 6 of these cables with fixed balls on ends in a box of early tools at auction. These are newer pieces but I have no idea what they are for or used with. Cables are flexible and balls are fixed in the locations they are in. Use?

Looks like aircraft swaging.  What kind of tools did you get?

That hammer looks like one used to force caulk in between boards on a wooden boat. So could they have something to do with wooden boats?

I thought may be my eye sight was going that I could not see the hammer.

Other tools seem to be getting more interest than the ball cables. The "hammer pliers" look like they are for pulling tacks. The bone handled knife with the curl on the end looks the oldest.

Hello, I think the bone handle tool on the left is a hoof parer. The cables? Some sort of linkage??/ Regards, Lou

Lou, you’re right about it being a hoof parer, some times called a hoof knife.

I have one of the "hammer" type things at the bottom of the picture. I have no idea what it is or what it was used for. Pat Leach had one on his December tool list, and he didn’t know what it was either...although he had it priced at $125, which I thought was a bit much for an unknown tool.

If it's unknown, it must be rare.
If it's rare, it must be valuable.

Simple logic...

The hammer looking tool is for pulling staples sunk in wood. You hit the hammer end with another hammer to drive the curved prong under staple then pry staple out. It should have a long handle, which is missing. $125!!!! I would take $10!

If the "jaws" pivot, are you sure it isn't part of a knotter for a binder, baler, etc.  Some of those have a "bird's beak" type piece about that size & shape.
