Hello, I found this at a good price at the flea. My plan is to clean it up, using some traditional methods, and some parts will go into the tumbler. I will post pics when re-assembled. Regards, Lou

If I recall correctley the low front knob was used up until about 1918 or 1919. What does the TM on the cutter look like,You can narrow down the date it was made by the trademark and Patent numbers if it has any.

No. 3 is a nice size; some folks prefer them as their primary smoothing plane.

Hi Lou,
Based on the 3 patent dates on the bed, the low front knob, and the small adjusting nut, it is probably a type 11 made from 1910-1918. Should have a "V" logo iron...once you get that little bit of rust taken care of.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
I too like the no. 3 size, they just feel right.

Hello, Guys. Thanks for the replies and the info. It is a V-logo iron. This is the finished product. The only pieces that did not go in the tumbler were the knob, tote, and casting. The right side was worse than I thought, and the bottom needs a little more work. All of the cleaning on the casting was done by hand, 100 grit, 150 grit, and 220 grit emery cloth on a granite surface plate. That's it for now, the iron will get sharpened at a later date.Regards, Lou
