Good evening all:
I have some tools that I wish to preserve in a museum quality finish (mirror finish).  I do not wish to chrome plate them.
I have heard that shellac or varnish will solve this problem.
Having never used either, I am looking forward to your comments and suggestions.
Thank you in advance.

I have been using the clear acrylic spray finish. Krylon and Ace brand seem to last for me. I use molasses to remove rust then diluted phosphoric acid "Etch and Prep" to stop the flash rust when rinsed. Once dry spray with the acrylic finish. Depending what it is satin, semi-gloss, or gloss is used.
