Craftsman pear head ratchets
« on: December 15, 2018, 08:00:55 PM »
Bought a pair (3/8" and 1/2") of pear head C-man ratchets--the one with oil ports.  They do not have the V on the reverse side like others I have.
Do any of you fellows know what--if anything--that signifies?

There is a guy on YouTube that collects Craftsman ratchets and provides a lot of history about them. Alloy Artifacts also has some history on the newer models. There use to be a Craftsman tools collectors site on the web, but it's been a while since i visited it.

Check out Jim's type study.  It may help.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

This may be of interest to the Craftsman collectors who wonder who made their tools.

Mike

Thanks for the links, guys.
The GJ link shows that the pear head rats were made c. 1949-1958, just before the flying v/butterfly (and Jim's study) began.   Cool, that.
As to the V/No V question, I'll keep working on that and let you know if I come up with something.
