long handle brush made of iron with a replaceable scrub brush

brush is about 12 inches long and 4 inches wide

VERY heavy

John Ferris was a brush maker here in Albany , hence the "Ferris Albany" stamped into it.

Any idea what it was used for?

I have a similar one but mine has a carpet like material on the bottom and I was told it was a floor polisher.

First thought was for scrubbing teak decks on old battleships?  Any real old sailors (older than me) out there?
