Stevens Walden oblong drive socket sets
« on: August 16, 2019, 06:07:51 PM »
These socket sets have oblong drive tools that fit oblong drive sockets.  Now if you have no knowledge of oblong drive you are not the only ones.  Even Alloy Artifacts call it a failed drive and don't show it at all.  I'm showing these because the two sockets sets shown in the first picture have a drive size of about 3/8 x 1/2" and was the only size I had until I bought the sockets shown below them recently.  The second picture shows three drive sizes, the two bottom sockets are the ones I had and 3/8 x 1/2" and the others are the ones I just bought.  The middle sockets are about 7/16 x 17/32" and the top ones about 1/2 x 19/32".  The bottom picture are the drive tools from the two sets, one is just an allen type wrench and the other is a breaker bar with a removable end which can be turned into a T bar. The tools only fit the smallest socket drive.  Thus I'm looking for anyone who might have oblong Walden drivers in larger sizes.  Does anyone have any of the oblong Walden tools?

Nope, but somewhere in the back of my clueless brain one cell says it's seen something like that opening shape before.

In the old Mossberg pressed steel socket sets there is an oval/oblong socket in the larger sets.  I forget what it fits.

I believe the oval socket came in the Ford sets.  It is used on the oil plug?

In 50+ years of buying, selling and turning wrenches, I have never seen that type of drive.

Hey coolford,

Yet another informative post!  You might very well have the most comprehensive Walden collection out there in the tool collecting world.  I can say with confidence that I’ve not seen an oblong drive socket set, Walden or otherwise, that I can recall.  Unfortunately, like I’ve said so many other times after you’ve posted tools from your fantastic collection, I have nothing of value to add to the topic.  All I can do is sit on the sideline and try to learn a thing or two.  Thanks for giving us a look at what are probably some very scarce tools.
