Ex WD B.S.A. Spanner can anyone tell me its use ?

I have found many B.S.A. Spanners here in the UK, however not one like this, normally they come from motorcycle tool kits.

This one is different as its says BSA Tools 1944 and has the W.D. broad arrow mark. Do you think it maybe gun related ?

Sure could be. BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms.

cool wrench, another for my "I gotta get me one of those" list. But what kind of "small arms" needs  a 3/8ths and a 7/16ths wrench?

Especially in a metric country...or had they switched over yet at that time?

Definately not switched over, this happened in the late 60's - I was taught both standards at school. (and still mix both today and use whatever is closest when making or measuring something).

Grace's Guide is the place to go to learn about Brit companies.  This is what B.S.A. Tools Limited was doing in 1939 - making small machinery for automotive/aircraft industries.  I would say you have a wrench that was supplied as part of a tool kit for one of these machines.
