One from the flea
« on: August 23, 2020, 09:22:21 AM »
Hello, I found this at the flea this morning. Seller didn't know what to call it, others looked and still no definitive answer. I have a few guesses of my own, but I will wait until I hear from you guys/gals!!! It weighs in at 3 pounds, and the ball end looks like it has never been struck. The pins are actually nails, former owner put in a few coated nail replacements. I am guessing the original nails were hardened, as in a masonry nail, Thanks for looking, Lou

Yes, here is a photo showing the location of the slotted flat head screw. You can also see the head of the alignment pin. Thanks, Lou

Ice crusher? I have a long handled tool with a spike filled head that was marked at an auction as an ice crushing tool.

Possibly!! That was one of my guesses, but I could not confirm, even after looking at quite a few photos of Ice Chippers. I also tried Scaling Tool and Bush Hammer, still no hits!!  Thanks, Lou

Nutcracker in this case can be given low odds.  Meat tenderizer does seem directionally correct.

At least we know it's not a tire patching tool.

Hello, Northwoods. Thanks for the info, but it doesn't look like it would work as the tool you posted. The head of this has a flat where the shoulder on the handle butts to it, so a handle passing all the way through does not look right, in my opinion. Regards, Lou

Wow, that is an awesome Ice Chipper!! Looks like the concept is the same as what I have. Are the pins/points replaceable on yours? Thanks, Lou

I never took the handle off but I don't think the points are replaceable.
