Barn Sale, Memphis NY
« on: September 12, 2025, 08:11:25 PM »
Today (9/12/25) thru Sunday - lots more tools than usual!  Got this MBC (Metal Box and Cabinet Company) middle cabinet.  It is cleaning up nicely.  I have an MBC top chest (restored) and a bottom roller cab (needs restration).  There were some miscellaneous tools inside - reamers, drills, round brushes, etc.  Also the clamp in the photo below - what is it???  The "bottom" has a hole for a rod? and a bolt to tighten it.  The clamp tightens onto ...what?

Hello , Al. That might be an old style grounding clamp for a water line.

Did not think of that - that makes a lot of sense.  Thanks, Lou.

The MBC cabinet is cleaning up very nicely - will NOT need repaint.  Just a cleaning and quick wipe down with rubbing compound thinned with mineral spirits.  I'm anxious to see it under my MBC top cabinet.  Should be in place tomorrow.

The barn sale (continues tomorrow - Sunday 9/14) had other tool chests with fair prices and way more mechanics tools than they usually have.  I had to tear myself away - but I kinda hit my spending limit on the tool cabinet, which was $40.  eBay has two of the same cabinet for $400 and $500.  The 400 is in awful condition the 500 is very good - but both are, I think, overpriced.

That tool cabinet is great!  Love the script.  You don't see that much anymore.

You might say I have a tool collecting problem....
