Were Perfect Handle wrenches painted?

Big honkin PH wrench with a big honkin price tag. Take a look at the  fourth photo. It looks like it was gray or light green when it was new.

I am no expert, but was researching the value of my W&B 18" wrench and found the below listing.
 $100 for a 20" Perfect Handle, who knows ?

That blueish tint looks to me like the result of some kind of cleaning attempt, maybe Muriatic acid. H D Smith catalog doesn't mention painted ones, but I suppose it is possible. Or- a previous owner painted it.

Redvise- they lowered that one to $65, but Great Expectations often has "great expectations" in their pricing!

That big one would fit in my collection, but not at $100.

>That blueish tint looks to me like the result of some kind of cleaning attempt,

That's the effect you get when you try electrolosis on very high carbon steels....
It gets blotchy, and you get odd dark blue-gray areas....

The large W stamped in the head is more annoying tho...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Electrolysis will leave a dull greyish/bluish tint on the surface, many times.
This comes off with a 3M pad pretty easy though.
   Its about one atom deep.

Acid pits a surface making it look dull.  This has to be sanded smooth if its substantial.
Steel wool sometimes gets it though.
I am not a big fan of acid usually, but sometimes its the best thing.

The bluish part looks to me like the original surface, looks almost like scale.  I've found that on quite a few older tools, especially those that were forged.

Sellers are strange. Won't sell at $100, so raise it to $125?
