Wow!

That's a lot of $ for a fairly recent catalogue that must have been fairly-widely distributed...

I think that this one comes into the "he's got to be dreaming" category! Sidchrome catalogues usualy bring between $40-70, the same catalogue recently sold for $35. All the "Austraian made" catalogues seem to have gone up in price.

Sorry put in wrong amount! $75 was for a different cat...(Feb 1973)

I think it was 1974 as the cover is different from my 75 cat.. Siddons didn't start making spanners till the 40s and from the 50s onwards became Australia's biggest best seller of mechanics tools. Still in business but now made overseas!

I don't know what year it is, but I'm fairly sure it is not 1974, 1972, 1971, 1970 or 1968 since I have photos of dated catalogues from these years...

I note, however, that the back cover of the eBay catalogue has the same photo of the wrench that appears on the front cover of the 1968 catalogue...

I read on another sellers listing that Sidchrome were dating cat..s by 1972. It was printed after 1967 as that was the year Oz got post codes  (note address on back page has post (zip) code)! By elimination that only leaves late 1967? or 1969 as you have accounted for all the others.

Graeme,

What was "Dawn" with respect to Sidchrome?

Kijiji King

anglesmith

LG,
Dawn is an Ozzie company that's gone full circle! Started in 1917 making vices and clamps. Taken over by the G N Raymond Group in 1959, acquired by Sidchrome (Siddons Ramset Ltd) in 1973, became part of Stanley Works Pty Ltd (USA) in 1991.  Since 1998 is now again 100% Australian owned. Dawn is the most common bench vice in Australia.

Interesting...

Here's what I have:

1962?

1968

1970

1971 (same cover photo as 1970)

1972

1973? (The eBay seller claimed this is a 1970, but likely not before 1973 as per Graeme)

1974

Is Joplin the name of the jacks?

Kijiji King

Joplin made jacks and vices, so far I have not been able to find much information about them accept their vices were in the 1937 McPhersons catalogue.  Also my Sidchrome catalogue marked R2 75 has exactly the same cover as the ?4 74 and pages 14 and 41 are identical!
I'm still thinking the Ebay cat... is most likely 69!
