Vintage hammers..... teaser
« on: March 31, 2012, 06:25:51 PM »
There's no HAMMER section so I figured I'd put this here.

When my wife and I started dating 19 years ago, she introduced me to a man at church that she has known most of her life. Bob is a nice guy but has a strange hobby. He collects hammers. His hobby doesn't seem so strange now that I collect ratchet's. Way back then, he said he had about 200 hammers. I've never seen his collection. That will soon change. I'll be going over to his house April 7th , with camera in hand, to get the grand tour. Anyone that has a specialized collection like that and has been collecting for so long is bound to know a lot of history on the manufacturer's. I'll be posting pictures as soon as I get home.

Collecting hammers a strange hobby?  Not to me!  Now I don't have anything like 200, but I have a lot of hammers.  My ex asked a co-worker once, "Just how many hammers does a man need?!"  "Just one more," he answered.

I'm really looking forward to those pictures!

I used to think it was strange. Not anymore. My wife said I didn't need anymore tools once my tool box was full. That's when I put handles on the side of the house and declared it my tool box.

I to use to think it was strange, a hammer as a collectible and not a tool. Now I am willing to pay for that "junk" I once called it.

Cant wait to see the pictures.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

The "tour" will be Monday due to the weekend/holiday schedule. Everyone's quite busy today.

I finally got to see the hammers. Many cool ones. I discovered something almost unthinkable. The guy isn't too concerned about preserving them as examples of historical tools although he has them in display boxes. When he cleans them up, he polishes them until they look like they've been chromed. If the polishing process destroys the makers logo, so be it. I wanted to scream. I don't know what he's trying to preserve. It sure isn't history.

There are some cool hammer designs though. As soon as I get somewhere with internet access for my laptop, I'll get the pictures posted.

One of the hammers needs to be identified as to what it was used for. The guy didn't know and I don't either.

YUM!! I love these!!
Several of them, well concerning the original maker?  He has surpassed the original maker so far it might as well be gone.
This guy need a deep acid etch marking system.
  He needs his own markings.
