I recently ran across a fairly large stash of unused tool rolls and grabbed a few for myself. Wow, sorry for the fuzzy photos, I was in a hurry. The idea is there though. The Duro rolls are
1) Set # 84319, NSN 5120-00-906-0168. If you look up that NSN number, you can get a lot of information but I don't know about the accuracy of any of it. It does seem that they were produced for a Military contract of some sort.
2) Set #84296, NSN 5120-00-103-9782. I put some chisels and punches in that one. A google of the NSN number will say what wrenches are supposed to be in that set, but the info doesn't really seem to match the markings on the roll. The store had quite a few of these. It any of you Duro collectors would like me to secure one for you, PM me and we'll figure out how to get it done.
The red and yellow rolls have numbers on them too. I don't know off hand who they were made for but I am wondering if any of you recognize this color combo? The smaller one is marked "NO. 70-7", the pic is fuzzy but it holds 7 wrenches, 3/16 to 1/2; and the larger one is marked "NO. 19008". Do these look familiar to anyone?

I'm liking that red/yellow combo.  Thanks for sharing!

The first NSN contains a standard size stepping of wrench sizes, but the roll doesn't, the second nsn contains a somewhat bizzare stepping of sizes...

My initial guess would be the rolls are actully rejects because someone goofed ;P

Both numbers are still active (not cancelled) so it's also possible the specs changed at some point, one of the pecular things about those numbers....they have no history as such...

They are very nice, I like bright colors, I am at the point where I can manage to lose things that are bright flourescent colors...;P

My thought was that the store had bought some miss prints too. As you mentioned, the sizes listed with the NSN do not match the sizes on the rolls. Strange, but at least they didn't just toss them in the dumpster.
Do you recognize the red ones?

70-7 or 707 is Wright tool's number, wright's early SAE rollups start with 7 or 9 and the number of pieces. Wright seems to have liked to use different colors depending on what is in the set, so there isn't really a 'standard' rollup color (recent ones are all dk blue denim tho)

Need an older Wright catalog to see id the color makes sense for that set....
