Well, Bob, I guess you'd better listen. Now, get busy adapting to your loss of mobility. I know you can still be active!

Sorry to hear that Bob. Your body may be failing you but your mind is strong. You have a lot of knowledge to share that would be a shame to loose. I wasn't smart enough to ask many questions of my elders and now they are all gone. I for one would love to hear stories of how things were and how they were done in your youth.

I have an idea! Why not get Nolatoolguy up to NY this summer to help out, do the heavy lifting, and learn from Bob?

sounds good , he can build a few railings and ramps and get all that 'stuff' organized.

I have 40 pounds of square cut nails to donate to the project

Hang in there Bob!

Have you tried one of these walkers like the first 3 and some others. They are quite popular here. Mother in law has real poor balance and tires quickly but seems to do pretty well with one. They have hand brakes, a seat and a basket for shopping and fit a lot of places a chair won't go

Bob did you ever meet Vern at Greece Mower?
He was born totally crippled both legs and arms long before the days of power chairs.

Vern got around his whole life on a succession of kitchen chairs cobbled up with coathangers and bailing wire, and he could darn near keep up with most people walking.   I was looking at his chair one day, and he gave me his usual what the hell you looking at.  I told him I was looking at something a smart man figured out, in case I ever needed to do something similar, and Vern spent a hour teaching me.

It ain't where you start, and it ain't what you don't have any more, it's all about what you do with what you have left.  Not many problems can't be solved when you think em through, generally the solution is staring at you waiting to be found.

Bob,
I've never met you.....  but, you're a bad ass in my book!  I've suffered through some debilitating problems.  I'm sorry you've been going through so much shit. But, you're Bob.....  the guy full of knowledge! Don't you DARE give up on working in your shop! You might be moving a little bit slower than you used to, but you're the same person you always were.....  just a few more struggles to deal with.  (I'm not making light of your situation, by any means.....  I wouldn't want you to think that I have taken your current state lightly).
I am also interested in your life story. I hope that things will get better for you. I value your knowledge and YOU!
cheers,
bird.

My apologies to your wife.  Please give her a hug and a kind word for me. We tend to rally around the patient and forget the wife and family  who may be suffering as much or even more than the patient in their own way. Thanks for reminding me.
