Friday's Estate Sale Plunder

I hit 15  or 20 Garage sales Friday. The second one was an estate sale in downtown Cedarburg. There was a table in the garage with the usual cheap homeowner tools, but behind them was a green SK roof top toolbox. I opened it and the tray was in it, but empty. Price sticker was $10. Asked if $5 would get it. He said yes. When I picked it up, it was kinda heavy. When I put it in the car, I opened it.  This is what was in it

4 DOE's and a small Vice Grip
One stamped DOE is marked Harris & Reed Mfg Co  Chicago
Another forged wrench with difficult markings  G-6165-96 but not sure



There was also 2 files with nice handles, a long sickle sharpening stone and a 3/8" socket chisel.

All in all done, a good birthday haul.

Here is what I turned up on AA:

Fig. 38 shows a Boos Tool adjustable wrench, stamped "Boos Tool Corp." and "Chrome Molybdenum" with "Pat. Pend." and "K.C. MO." below.

The overall length (retracted) is 7.6 inches, and the finish is polished chrome.

The patent pending status refers to design patent #D130,015, filed in 1941 for J.B. Boos by the executor of his estate.

Does anyone have the Montgomery Ward 'Lakeside' logo?

The Harris & Reed may be the most interesting. They supposedly made automotive specialty tools around the beginning of the century, but the only thing that turns up is an odd looking alligator wrench (that they must have mad a ton of). No mention of fixed wrench sets....hmmm

PS: The lakeside monkey is a Montgomery Wards brand....

I have a Lakeside pipe wrench like that only bigger. 

I have seen where Lakeside was a brand name used by Wards, but there was also a separate company called Lakeside according to Alloy Artifacts.  I got the impression that the font of the stamping on our pipe wrenches is different from that used by Wards, and that all the Wards versons said "Wards Lakeside", but I could be wrong.

The other lakeside is Lakeside Forge Co of Erie,PA.
Ad's show use of a L in a circle(?) , a keystone containing an L, sometimes with trade/mark above/below, , and a sort of bridge shaped logo with lakeside in plain type under it.

I am not as certain as AA that Wards always appears before Lakeside....

Admittidly, the stylized underline on the OP pipe wrench is unusual..

I have that same toolbox. I got mine in 1982 just 2 days after being in a car wreck. I bought mine at a flea market in Salem Oregon. The logo on mine has Sherman & Klove besides the S&K name. I paid $2.00 for mine, but that was 30 years ago.
