Crescent Wrench Question

Picked up a nearly new looking vintage 12" Crescent wrench the other day but the moving jaw is broken.  Likely not going to find one on ebay, but when I tried to remove the spiral  adjuster, there was no slot for a screwdriver tip to fit inside to unscrew the pin to remove the spiral.  Finally got it out reaming the hole and tapping the wrench against a vise to remove it.  I understand how they distorted the opening to keep the pin in, but my question is, does anyone know when Crescent went to the threaded pin with the screwdriver slot on their wrenches??  Also, if someone has a movable jaw for the 12" in new or great condition, that would be a plus too.

What you have is a Crescent Centennial wrench -- Crescent, 1907 to 2007.   I recently picked up an 8 inch centennial.  I hadn't noticed that the pin was not made to withdraw until reading your post.  I think the real question is when did Crescent abandon the slotted, threaded pin.

The Centennial wrench appears to be the same as the current "Alloy Steel Adjustable Wrench," so you might be able to get a new jaw from Crescent.

I think Crescent only sells parts for 15"+ wrenches.

My guess is this wrench is newer, and i haven't taken one of these apart. 

How do you plan to hold the pin in once you get the new jaw?

I purchased an assortment of parts from Alex71, I had three 12" where i needed the pin and screw.  My luck was the assortment included none of those.

Let me dig around a bit and see what I have.

This is for a 12" Crescent wrench.  It fits in an older Crescent i have. It came out of the assortment I bought from Alex71 on GJ. Send me a PM if you need it.

I'm sure glad I wasn't thinking seriously that his was a really old wrench.  It was just too shiny.  The factory did a couple of chisel marks at 9 and 3 o'clock to keep the pin in.  The next time I go to the farm supply store, I'll check and see how the new ones anchor the jaw drive mechanism.  I could see Crescent being really crafty and going retro just like the 1907 model(if that was the way the old one was), or I could see them going on the cheap and getting rid of the screw-in pin "going forward".  We'll find out eventually.  Thanks to all for the information.

Some of the later Craftsman adj. wrenches are pinned & staked.  You may check into one of them for parts.  May or may not fit, I never looked that closely.  Then you'll need to find parts  for it.
