Canadian auction king
« on: September 08, 2012, 11:33:16 PM »
Went to an auction today that seemed to show some promise, there was a lot old farm implements and boxes and boxes of implement wrenches, woodworking, metalworking and mechanics tools and various other boxes of cool stuff . I thought this has the potential for me to overcome Neals as the Canadian auction king, BUT, it was not to be , prices were crazy, never seen anything like it. I ended up with a coffee grinder, a pipe wrench which is new to me and what may be some type of ratcheting lug wrench. The two wrenches are having a vinegar bath at this time and the grinder is still at the auction yard ( too congested to pick it up today.) The pipe wrench says it's a Giles pat from October 30 1888 and was made by the Place Mfg Co in Oswego NY Pat number 391 957. I cant find any info on the place Mfg Co but Julian A Giles Patented two pipe wrenches. This was his first in 1888 and the second was in Aug of 1889. I will post some pics when the wrenches emerge from the vinegar bath. So as it stands Neals is still our Canadian auction King. Jim

I don't have a problem passing the torch. I guess it depends on how you judge it. You got some good collectables. I got a bunch of stuff for next to nothing. In other words is the tiltle based on quality or quantity?

>Place Mfg Co in Oswego NY

Chauncey Clarke Place, founded Place Mfg in 1892, merged it with Oswego Tool Co 'shortly after'

The titles are based on whim and fancy- in other words, I make them up on the fly usually. Anytime a member wants it changed- change it, or ask me to change or delete it.
