I guess I'm collecting these one hander wrenchs.This one is USA made.

I think i have one of those. Also found several Heller hammers. Believe they concentrated mostly on blacksmith farrier tools, good stuff.

Watch the writing on the handles on the 6 inch ones. There are several variations that have patent dates and also one that has the N in Newark backwards. Also available with and with out teeth. 6 in. was the smallest and I think 18 inch the largest.

There was a thread on these things awhile back. Run a search and you'll find more info.

I see they made a variation of this for a lot of years. It's older than I thought.
Could be 1918 or so.I couldn't find one with the same lettering as mine, I think it's pre - patent.
It's very similar to the German "one hander " I have.

My guess is that it is post patent. As you mentioned they were made for many years and keeping all the patent no's. on tools required a lot of die maintenance. For this reason when the patent ran out, then the patent no's. were left off. Made the forging dies cheaper to maintain.

As an aside, I got a one-hander at an auction this year, similar to yours, that was made in Denmark.

There are a lot of different one-handers out there...even Sears had/has a knock-off of the Masterwrench.

I'm afraid my one-hander was made in Japan, but it was one of three wrenches for a dollar at a yard sale, and it works. I was surprised at how well it works.

I have a 8 inch Heller Masterench with a horsey on it. Seems well made. I also have a couple of the German ones. The German ones have teeth on the jaws and the Heller Bros does not.

Just bought a 6" Masterench, no teeth and the following patent dates 29-11-12, 4-14-25 and 7-5-27. Why the square hole in the handle?

I have a 6" and I think I have a larger one. The 6" square hole is bigger than 1/4" and smaller than 3/8".

I have some 9/32" drive tools, but I really think this is 5/16". Was that a common square bolt size? I can't think of any tanks with that size. Were they that big?
